AFP - Manuel Gabriel Torres and Blas Perez each scored twice to spark Panama over 10-man Cuba 6-1, sending the winners into the Gold Cup semi-finals.
Panama advanced into a Wednesday semi-final of the biennial North American regional tournament against Mexico, who won their quarter-final match 1-0 over Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.
Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the contest in the 84th minute for Mexico. Jimenez was six yards from goal when he redirected a cross from the right wing past Trinidad goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams.
"We have a chip on our shoulders and we are going to take revenge on the Panama side," goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco said of Mexico who lost to Panama 2-1 in the previous round. "We have a solid goal and we are going to fulfil it."
Jose Ciprian gave Cuba the lead in the 21st minute, but four minutes later Torres equalized from the penalty spot.
Torres gave Panama the lead for good with a goal in the 38th minute, but the game turned when Cuban forward Ariel Martinez was shown a red card in the 58th minute after a nasty foul on Perez.
Panama's Carlos Rodriguez followed with his first international goal in the 67th minute, Perez added goals in the 78th and 87th minutes and Jairo Jimenez netted his first international strike in the 84th minute.
Sunday's quarter-finals at Baltimore send the host United States against El Salvador and Honduras against Costa Rica. They will meet in Wednesday's other semi-final.
The winners of the CONCACAF regional crown will meet the 2015 Gold Cup winners to decide a berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
