Another Product Review: Energizer Micro LED Headlight

So it's been a few weeks since I started using the Energizer PRO 4LED Headlight that I posted about here. ?With the change in season and a busy spouse's work schedule I've actually been doing quite a few more runs in the early morning and later evening. ?And it's great because in addition to my usual array of flashing safety lights I now have a convenient and powerful head light to wear too and it makes running in the dark a lot easier and safer. ?

You may recall from that post that Energizer sent me a whole basket full of goodies to try out. ?I decided to go through the rest of the products and see what else was in there. ?In addition to the PRO 4LED Headlight there was also a second headlight included that I was anxious to try...

This headlight is called the MICRO LED Headlight and seems to be a small, lightweight model. ?The following?features?are noted on the?Energizer product website and on the packaging:
  • High intensity white Cree LED light
  • Adjustable brightness levels from 100% to 6%
  • 3 light modes - spot, adjustable brightness and night vision
  • Discrete switch
  • Waterproof
  • 2 hrs of runtime on maximum setting
  • Runs on 1 AA Energizer battery
  • Light can be tilted

I was anxious to give it a try so I took it out of the package and got it ready to go. ?This light has a different set-up in that the battery pack is separate from the light housing and actually goes behind your head.

I actually really liked this style because it kept the heavier part of the light on the back of your head and away from your forehead where a heavy light can get quite uncomfortable. ?It took a few minutes to get the band adjusted properly so that it fit on my head nice and snug but once it was set up it was really comfortable. ?

I started out a bit before dark and it was really beautiful night out. ?I had set out to do some speed work and after a few of my 400m intervals it had gotten dark enough that I switched on my trusty new headlight. ?I was impressed by how brightly this light lit up the street in front of me - I can't stress enough how much safer it feels to be able to see the road ahead of your feet as you run along in the dark. ?

I also liked how well lit the signs and cars around you become when you have an LED headlight on. ?I like it because not only can I see them better but other drivers/walkers approaching also notice the bright reflections and that helps them be aware that I'm there too. ?Check out this stop sign with and without my headlight...

I pretty much only used the full-power spot light function but decided to check out the red "night vision" mode too...

Not totally sure how "night vision" function would be used for running but maybe I'll find a use for it one day.

Anyhow, I really liked this light because of it's neat and tidy size and the fact that it was so lightweight. Even during a hard running workout like doing speed intervals, I barely knew it was there which is huge to me when I'm running.

So because I'm so jazzed about my new running lights, I made it official and am all ready to go for the Energizer Night Race here in Vancouver this weekend. ?There seems to be lots of buzz about this event amongst the runners in my run club so I'm really excited to finally get to do it this year.

And in other news, I was excited to find a variety of batteries in the package I was sent by Energizer. ?As a mom, this was a huge treat because it seems that all of my boys' toys require batteries of one size or another. ?I wasn't exactly sure how to "test" the batteries but I can honestly say that my sons' trains have been running a lot longer than usual without me having to change the batteries. ?This is a win for me because less changes mean less cost and a huge win for my boys because their trains seem to drive around that track forever...which I guess is a second win for me because it keeps them entertained!

Please Note: ?I have been provided with free Energizer products to permit me to review them. ?The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not necessarily represent the opinions of Energizer Canada Inc.
